Egr is only supposed to open in low power states, ie no boost. Obviously if is not closing or sealing properly then boost will be lost, hence the problems it can cause when faulty.
To diagnose and repair Ford exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems properly, it is important to understand how they work and what is unique to the product line. Ford EGR systems are designed to reduce smog-causing nitrous oxides (NOx) by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases from each cylinder of the engine back into the intake manifold.
Hi, Ive got a 58 plate Transit 100 T350 2.4 RWD, always surged a little at idle but not been a problem. Other day it cut out at approach to roundabout when I pressed the clutch. Started back up ok first time, but then cut out at every junction all the way home.
Further symptom update - Monitored the EGR valve again following startup, and the EGR remains open from startup until engine coolant temperature is exactly 38 degrees Celsius, and engine runs very lumpy during this time, until bang on 38 Celcius the EGR error reduces to 0% and the engine noise changes completely and runs smoothly.
MY3zLA. The EGR valve on the 2.5D models is vacuum controlled. Simply block (disconnect from the EGR) the vacuum line and the EGR valve will be kept closed. This is the easiest way to get rid of the EGR problem. There were other easy suggestions on the forum - for example, locking the throttle in the open position.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is designed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, but some Transit Custom owners have reported issues with the EGR valve. Failures in the EGR valve can impact engine performance and emissions. Regular servicing and using high-quality fuel can help mitigate potential EGR valve problems, ensuring the van

The EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation valve) does nothing more than introduce exhaust gases into the combustion process under certain conditions which has the effect of cooling the combustion process and contributing to less harmfull emissions. Most engines have them.
All £420k of it. With exhaust gases flowing through the component, it will eventually succumb to the deposits of carbon and hydrocarbons and it will ultimately seize. Replacing an EGR valve is an all too common repair. The EGR valve is connected to the exhaust system by a metal tube.
