Backingoff the throttle a bit at high RPMs and up-shifting always seemed quite smooth. Not quite closing the throttle, but definitely reduced. Cracking the throttle and up-shifting seemed fine as well. This matches your observations. And yeah, there seems to be that middle of the ground region where things get clunky.

Mechanically the engines are the same with identical cams, intakes, and exhausts. Differences in their respective power curves are purely due to tuning.
